Elevatorz Featured On Big Fish Games

Friday, December 14th, 2007

My latest flash game Elevatorz is doing rather well. A few weeks ago it was already the featured game on the sites of the SpillGroup network. And today, it is the Featured Online Game in the online games section of Big Fish Games! Big Fish Games is a very big and important games portal, so needless to say I’m very proud about this! :)
Here’s a screenshot of their site, showing the great logo they made for the game:

Yesterday they also added my first flash game Enigmatica to their site. I recently made a deal with them that allows them to put a customised version of all my games on their site. Since they have a huge audience that likes casual games, this is great exposure and a good fit for my games!

Great Newgrounds Reviews For Smiley Puzzle

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Last friday I uploaded my game Smiley Puzzle to Newgrounds, and it receiced surprisingly good reviews! At the time of writing there are 7 reviews, with an average score of 8.43/10!

I did not expect these good reviews from Newgrounds, since their audience is not really the same as the typical casual match-3 game audience. This probably also explains the game’s score of 3.49/5, unfortunately not enough to get a front page.

There was also a lot of praise for the music in the game. So special thanks to MazeMaster for his track Moce Trance!

About 2 weeks ago I slowly started distributing Smiley Puzzle to other sites. You can download the game package here. I already have 6 free games available on the free content page of the SmileyGamer site! Of course, the game is also available for non-exclusive site-locked licensing.

New Flash Game Released: Smiley Puzzle

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I have finally done the thing I never expected to do: I made a match-3 action puzzler!

Smiley Puzzle is inspired by the popular games Chuzzle and Fairies. Slide the rows of smilies to form groups of 3 or more smilies of the same color. There are bonuses, combo’s and special items to spice things up. Beat all 24 levels of the Challenge mode, or have endless fun in the Relaxed mode!

Some people might recognize the smiley graphics from the original Smiley Puzzle Project, that was supposed to become a game based on the Enigmatica mechanism.

For now, Smiley Puzzle is exclusively available on the SmileyGamer arcade. It’s our second game featuring the cool 3D rendered smilies, which are also the logo of the SmileyGamer site. The first one, Smiley Memory, recently had quite a succesful public release, after a period of exclusivity. Both games are available for licensing, and a free version of Smiley Memory is available for download. Check out our Games For Your Site page for more info!

Smiley Memory, the coolest memory game ever, is now available for you to place on your website! You can find out more about the game in this post.

The downloadable game package, available from our Free Games for your Site page, contains the sfw of the free version, some thumbnails and descriptions.

Smiley Memory is also available for licensing, meaning that I will add your logo in the game, and integrate the game with your highscore system. Contact me for more information!

Smiley Memory Released: The Coolest Memory Game Ever!

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Finally! The coolest memory game ever has been released to the public! For those who haven’t read my blog yet, Smiley Memory is a challenging memory game, in the popular action puzzler genre. Find the matching pairs of smileys before your lifebar runs out. But beware, making mistakes will make it run out faster. And worse, when the shorter movebar runs out, the smileys will start to move around! Give it a try here or here.

The game was already finished for a while, but due to negotiations I had to wait until today to release it. It’s released simultaneously on both my SmileyGamer arcade site, and on GameGarage.

For 3 months, the game will be exclusively available on these 2 sites only. After this period, it can be licensed by other sites, and after that a free version will also be created and distributed to other online gaming sites.

To end, I’d like to give special thanks to MazeMaster, who’s great song Dreams Of Above is used in the game!

Smiley Memory Reaches Beta

Smiley Memory, my new flash game, is now in beta stage! I’ve done the highscores integration with the Smiley Gamer website, improved the gameplay and some animations, and added an intro screen. Find out more about the game here.

It’s been way too long since my last blog update. But there are good reasons: I’ve been working hard on both my new Flash game, Smiley Memory, and my Smiley Gamer online games arcade.

Smiley Memory is an action-puzzler based on the classic game of Memory. The goal is to find matching pairs of smileys, within the given time. What makes the game unique, is the added difficulty that the smileys will move around from time to time, in a number of different patterns.

Smiley Memory is currently in alpha stage, but I should be able to have a beta version by the end of this week. The most important things to do are finetuning of the gameplay, adding some animations and polishing the graphics, and adding sound and maybe music.

I’m always looking for some good beta testers, so if you want to give the game a try, don’t hesitate to contact me through this form.

Smiley Memory will be the first game to come out of the Smiley Puzzle Project. I started this project more than a year ago, and it has gone through several changes. The current strategy is to make online games is flash, that function as advergames for the Smiley Gamer arcade website. Although this is a big step away from the original plan to make downloadable games in java, the core idea to make interesting puzzle and action-puzzler games has stayed the same!

Smiley Gamer Arcade Off To A Good Start

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Three weeks ago I launched the beta version of my new online games arcade, SmileyGamer.com. While the site is still in beta, I already made some changes to the design and color scheme. I went to dark text on a light background, to make it easier on the eyes.

Since the launch, the site has received almost 16000 visitors, and more than 45000 pageviews. This is definitely more than I expected! According to Google Analytics, almost 60% are direct visitors, i.e. not referred by another site. Most of these are people who click on the links in my flash game Enigmatica, which I released not long after the site went live.

In the past few weeks I’ve been spreading the freeware version of Enigmatica to several online game websites. It is surprising to see how many people visit the site thanks to the game. So the free version of Enigmatica is not only giving me a small residual income with the included MochiAds advertisement, but also through the advertising on my website.

Making money with a games arcade is rather hard though, the revenue from Google Adsense ads is very very low. Most visitors visit the site to play games, not to click on ads! :) But fortunately I was accepted with ValueClickMedia last week! They are an ad network that also pays for pageviews of the ad, so I make money even if people don’t actually click on the ads.

The rest of the traffic was mostly obtained thanks to banner exchanges, like MoreGamers and ArcadeBanners, social bookmarking sites like Digg and StumbleUpon, and link exchanges with other arcades.

I still have several features planned for the website, before I can call it final. But even more important is to continue work on Smiley Memory, which will be my next Flash game! Already mentioned before, Smiley Memory will be the first game from the Smiley Puzzle Project. This game will feature the 3D smiley’s also used on the Smiley Gamer site. I expect it to become a lot more popular than Enigmatica, so it will be a great promotion for the site! It’s great to see the Smiley Puzzle Project, originally started more than a year ago, finally come to life!
